Any real Londoner knows that Oyster cards are a ripoff. Just use your bank card and avoid paying extra on an Oyster for travel you won't use.

We went to London two weeks ago. Oyster Card is usless now, just pay directly with Google Walet/Appel Pay or any contactless credit card.

Here's a tip to many trainspotters. Get a daysave ticket. For example, a southern daysave ticket costs £25 meaning you get unlimited travel on all southern rail services where there are some rules if your using the ticket on a weekday but there aren't no rules if your using your ticket on a weekend or a bank holiday. I went exploring on branch lines that southern rail serves like the East Grinstead branch, the Tattenham Corner branch, the Uckfield branch etc...

Train tickets and tube tickets are really expensive for most of traveller, so choosing the appropriate ticketing software and finding the biggest possible discounts is a useful way to save money. For those living in or travelling around the UK and Europe, getting a railcard is a good option. If I remember correctly there is a software that is discounting all train tickets in the UK and Europe and can also be used in conjunction with the railcard discount. It's very economical and I've spent 35% less each time I've travelled!

Do you have to tap in and out when using the river boat and cable car?

London oyster card system is very confusing. If I understand correctly, let's say I am a visitor and I top up the card with 20 pounds and use the tube for 10 rides in Zone 1 on the first day, does that means I have exhausted all my balance and need to top up again? (considering the fare is 2.70 in Zone 1) This is very expensive compared to rest of Europe. For example, in Munich we have 7-day pass for 20 euros only for the main zone, Zone M and this is for unlimited number of rides on all public transport.

You don’t need to touch on the yellow reader to activate when you buy it, only when you top up. That’s just to check your balance

Stay at Bath and book onto a Scarper tour. They go from Bath. Depending on the time of year you can do an all day tour or a half day tour. Cost includes entry to Stonehenge, nice clean bus, friendly staff and points of interest along the route and QR code for your phone to get the commentry for walkabout at Stonehenge. Value for money, in my opinion. You can drive there and not pay but its quite a walk from where the parking is (1 mile plus some). The car park charges at busy times too.
